We serve about 25 percent of the U.S. demand for natural gas. Our gas reaches many different places, such as residential homes, commercial buildings and industrial facilities. It also serves many different purposes, including power generation, heating and cooling. To safely meet these varied energy needs every day for many Americans, we operate more than 32,700 miles of pipeline spanning 40 U.S. states—that’s more than enough pipe to circle the Earth—as well as 535 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of regulated storage.
Our U.S. Natural Gas system on Jan. 30, 2019 moved a company-record 33.1 Bcf of gas, as Americans sought to stay warm during the middle of winter.
The Keystone Pipeline System marks its 10th anniversary in 2020
While Keystone XL is a well-known project, the 1,210-mile pipeline under construction is actually part of the existing Keystone Pipeline System that was commissioned in 2010. The current Keystone Pipeline System stretches 2,687 miles and safely delivers hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil daily to the U.S. Gulf Coast to meet energy demand.
Not only will Keystone XL be capable of safely delivering 830,000 barrels per day of oil, it will create 10,400 construction jobs in the U.S. and additionally support 42,000 direct and indirect U.S. jobs. Keystone XL is an $8-billion investment to strengthen continental energy security and provide substantial economic benefits to communities along the way.
